Roomies spill the beans

To room or not to room. That is the question. Well, when you are on a rugby tour, chances are you will have to room with a team mate.
Two Emirates Lions players who have roomed together while on tour are Hacjivah Dayimani and Marvin Orie. These two colourful characters have roomed together since Dayimani joined the Vodacom Super Rugby squad in 2017.
“Marvin always thinks he is in charge so we always have a bit of a power struggle in terms of who chooses the bed, who showers first etc,” says Dayimani.
“I am in charge. I don’t know, it is just how it is,” quips the tall lock quickly.
The two insist that they get along very well, it is just in the morning and at night that power struggle happens.
Orie denies that he snores – ‘absolutely not’ – and according to him, Hacjivah snores a lot.
“Sometimes when I work late at night, looking at clips for instance, and I take my earphones out, it is a complete mess. I have contemplated sleeping with music in my ears as it will be better than listening to his snoring.”
Orie sometimes struggles to sleep and when he does, he tries doing some analysis until he falls asleep again.
The big bone of contention between these two are the neatness, or the lack thereof. Orie is a very neat guy and admits he might have a little bit of an OCD tendency.
“When things are out of place, usually that doesn’t sit well with me. I am trying to teach him to be neat, but I'm not successful at that all the time.”
“I think I am neat. Marvin wants everything in order. Kit here, shoes there, civvies together, laundry all together. What I do is everyone is in a corner and all the shoes are in a corner. And when it is dirty, I choose another corner. Then I know I have worn it already if I can’t find it. I feel it is effective to a point where I have never struggled. Because I know where to look, which corner to go to. So that’s my philosophy,” Hacjivah said with a big smile on his face.
