Golden Lions XV kick off season with a win

Lions VX start on a high note


The Xerox Golden Lions XV kicked off their SuperSport Rugby Challenge campaign with a win, beating a much more senior side, the Welwitchias in Windhoek on Saturday by 40-23.

Hooker PJ Botha was named the Man of the Match, scoring one of three maul drive tries. The other two were scored by Ruben Schoeman and Chergrin Fillies.

The Lions were leading 14-3 at half-time thanks to double try scorer Yanga Hlalu.

The last try was scored by the strong wing Stean Pienaar.
