This morning, Mangosuthu University of Technology hit the 80% mark for its 2020 registration target which sits at 12500 students. So far the University registered 10, 020 students and counting, 7386 of which are returning students while the rest are first time entering students (2429) and students who transferred from other institutions (205).

The University has been hard at work ensuring that registration is speedily concluded for students to start preparing for the beginning of term. Lectures start on Monday, 3 February 2020. “I am proud to see that so many students are booking their place at MUT and are eager to start their academic year at the University,” said Mike Naidoo, MUT Registrar. “Our registration success is a result of months of planning and finding ways of speeding up the process, which often means a visit to Seme Hall to identify bottlenecks and solve them. As it is, we have a standing meeting every afternoon to assess our registration process.”

The breakdown of current registration numbers per faculty are as follows:

  • Faculty of Engineering – 3675
  • Faculty of Management Sciences – 4834
  • Faculty of Natural Sciences – 1511
News of the 80% mark came after a visit to the registration site in MUT’s Seme Hall by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Enoch Duma Malaza and members of the executive to see for themselves how the registration process was conducted.

“It is encouraging to see the number of students who are ready to shape and own their future at MUT. The demand for space within our University is testament to the quality of programmes we offer,” said Dr Malaza. “I want to commend our staff for their tireless efforts and dedication to ensure that students are registered.”

The University expects to reach its registration target by end of the week.
